The law on abortion differs in each state or territory in Australia. In NSW there are certain requirements that need to be met in order to legally terminate a pregnancy.

In NSW the legality of abortion is based on common law interpretation of the criminal code. So, in NSW abortion is considered legal/lawful if the pregnancy puts the mental or physical health of the mother at risk. A woman’s life circumstances, not just medical, can justify the need for an abortion.

The patient must be counselled regarding her options and care must be given by registered doctors. A consent form must be signed by both the patient and the treating doctor.

At Gynaecology Centres Australia’s Sydney clinic located in Hurstville together with our other four clinics (Newcastle, Gosford, Wollongong & Canberra) our specially trained doctors provide abortion in a safe and caring environment.

At GCA we offer surgical and medical termination of pregnancy.  At present medical termination may be offered to 7 weeks of pregnancy and surgical termination is performed to 14 weeks.
